Old army kit has always had a place in motorcycling, whether it’s ex-military bikes being sold off cheap, or boots and jackets picked up from army surplus stores. The new Weise Recon jacket is inspired by that look, but with all the features you’d expect from dedicated motorcycle clothing.
So you get a 600D textile shell, packed with removable Level 1 Re ZRO shoulder, elbow and back armour. And along with the removable 75gsm quilted thermal layer, there’s also a waterproof, windproof and breathable liner. Overall, the Recon is AA certified for safety.
To help you stay dry, the main zip has a full-length storm flap with poppers, and you get adjustment at the waist and cuffs, along with a trouser connection zip and comfort stretch panels to help prevent the jacket moving up when you’re riding.
One useful feature inspired by military kit is the amount of pockets, with nine on the outside and three inside. These include smaller options on the upper and lower sleeves, with the larger chest pockets for carrying bigger items.
You get the choice of Black or Olive, with a subtle Weise logo and 3M reflective detailing, which might not be helpful if you want to be camouflaged, but should help car drivers spot you in the dark. The Weise Recon is available in sizes S-5Xl and costs £219.99.
If it’s a little subdued for you, then there are other options, including from Weise, with the Scout jacket recently getting an urban camo design, for example. And you’ll just need either an Armstrong MT500 or a diesel Kawasaki KLR650 to really complete a modern military theme.
You can find it at your local Weise stockist, which actually includes Halfords. And if it’s not the right choice for you, why not check out all our coverage of motorcycle jackets, including the Weise range.
