Motorcycle racers and celebrities will partner with brands for a variety of reasons. But if you’re hurling yourself and your bike through the air, we’d imagine safety might be a fairly big consideration. So it’s nice that LS2 Helmets back FMX rider Luc Ackermann with an official partnership. And it gives a fairly sizeable endorsement for their MX lids.
Apparently the 22-year-old German has been wearing LS2 gear for a while. And he started out by setting a record for the ‘youngest motorcycle backflip of all time’ at age 12, followed by the ‘youngest motorcycle double backflip’ in 2017, along with becoming the youngest FIM European Champion in 2018, following the first double backflip in FIM an FMX World Championship contest. Then came the first dirt-to-dirt contest double backflip and the youngest FIM Freestyle Motorcross World Champion in history in 2019. Oh, and in 2020, he broke Travis Pastrana’s long held record by performing 10 backflips in 30 seconds.

This 2020 highlights video shows some of what he gets up to, as a world champion freestyle motocross star.
What’s most interesting about this deal is that apparently Ackermann wears an LS2 MX700 Subverter Evo (we wrote about 2021 updates to the MX helmet, here). So you can own the same helmet for a pretty affordable £119.99 in solid colours and £139.99 for the graphics options (there’s no Ackermann replica yet). And it’s nice and reassuring to think that it’s basically the same helmet on your head as being used by the world champion of upside down motorcycle jumping and flipping.
You can order LS2 helmets online from GhostBikes (or RevZilla in the U.S), including some good discounts and deals. Whether you’re looking for road or off-road helmets, why not check out our other Helmet news and articles, or our previous coverage of the LS2 range?
