The LS2 Subverter MX Helmet Gets More Protection

The LS2 Subverter MX Helmet Gets More Protection

November 14, 2019 By DanThornton Leave a Comment

The LS2 Subverter MX helmet has been updated for 2020 with the latest technology to help protect and prevent brain injuries. The good news is that although the helmet has been around for a while now (we covered it back in 2018), the extra protection doesn’t mean an increased price.

The new addition is a Multi-directional Impact Protection System, called MIPS for short. It’s a low friction layer which is between the EPS liner of the helmet, and the fabric inside. And the idea of is is to lessen any rotational injury caused by your brain moving inside your skull during a crash.

So by having the low friction layer, it means your head can move 10-15mm in all directions. It doesn’t sound like a lot, but it reduces the rotation inside your head by redirecting some or all of the force and impact. So it’s dissipated outside of your skull, rather than inside it. Which seems like a good idea.

You’ll probably be familiar with the rest of the specs for the LS2 Subverter MX helmet. It’s ECE 22.05 cerified for road use, and ACU Gold for off-road competition. The outer shell is the LS2 Kinetic Polymer Alloy which is strong, flexible, and comes in at a 1300 gram weight.

Venting is important when you’re riding off-road, so there are plenty of intrakes and channels around the LS2, and you get a breathable, removable and washable hypoallergenic lining, an adjustable long peak, and a wide aperture which fits most goggles.

In addition to the MIPS protection, the LS2 Subverter also has Emergency Release System cheek pads, so the helmet can be removed with minimal movement to your head and neck – obviously important in a crash.

The LS2 Subverter MX helmet is available in sizes XS-3XL, with three outer shell sizes to get the best fit. You can pick from two solid and 10 graphic finishes, including Chrome and Max options, with the solid versions costing £149.99, the graphics at £179.99, and the Chrome or Max versions at £199.99.

Looking for a Subverter helmet or one of the other LS2 MX lids? UK LS2 helmet stockists include Ghost Bikes. In the U.S, dealers include Revzilla.
