The Triumph Glasgow Grand Opening Weekend takes place on Saturday May 27th and Sunday May 28th, 2017. And there’s a load of entertainment laid on through the two days. So even if you’re not in a hurry to buy a new Triumph Street Triple, Bonneville or Street Cup, it might be worth popping along.
For one thing, the Triumph Glasgow Grand Opening Weekend will be the first chance to look around the 20,000 square foot, purpose-built location. Which apparently took £3.5 million of investment to create. So it should be pretty good.
There’s a range of entertainment on offer, too. On Saturday there’s female fronted rock trio The Amorettes, and Sunday will see Stevie Nimmo, Mason Hill and 90’s rock group Gun (They covered Word Up!, if that helps).
Plus there’s a BBQ, other entertainment, and a load of different prizes on offer. So you could win a goody bag, a grand prize draw, a weekend giveaway or limited-edition signed merchandise. And it’s free to come along and see the new Triumph dealership, which is the first in the area for several years.
If you prefer motorcycle celebrities, then there are two well-known racers making appearances during the weekend if you want to grab an autograph or photo.
Jeremy McWilliams is well known to anyone following motorcycle racing since the early 1990s. Famously he took a win in the 2001 250cc Grand Prix at Assen, and finished sixth in the championship that season with top 5 results at the last six races of the year. He actually moved into GPs on a 500cc Yamaha in 1993, before moving into the 250cc class in 1997. Not only did he ride in MotoGP on the Proton with Team Roberts, and for the Aprilia MotoGP squad, but he also returned to the paddock in 2014 to ride the Brough Superior Racing Taylor Made in Moto2.
That’s before mentioning a podium at the 2012 North West 200, the fact that he still races in British Superstock, working with KTM, and appearing in the film Under The Skin with Scarlett Johansson.
Also sure to draw fans to the event is Scottish Moto3 rider John McPhee. From Oban, McPhee has been competing in Moto3 since 2012. he took his first podium in 2015, and followed it up with a win at the Czech Republic in 2016. Riding for the British Talent Team, he’s already taken two podium positions this year.
