If you look past the slightly pretentious language about heritage concepts and coffee-shop barista beards and tattoos, Yamaha and their ‘Faster Sons’ idea led to bikes which were easy to customise, some very cool specials and a project with builder Shinya Kimura which led to a mainstream model as well.
It’s obviously doing well for Yamaha in terms of sales, as they’re teasing ‘Faster Sons Chapter Two – The Challenge’ with a new collaborator, and more details released on Monday, November 16th at 9pm CET.
There are a few subtle hints in the video they’ve released, considering it features Roland Sands Designs, riding down one of those dry concrete riverbed things that feature in every American car chase, vintage racing clips, a naked Yamaha with a retro speedblock design and at the end, a certain Kenny Roberts walking into the garage in vintage Yamaha racing leathers.
There’s a chance to make some snide comments about the Team Roberts Modenas KR3 at this point, but seeing as we’ve never developed a new motorcycle capable of competing in Grand Prix, that would be uncalled for.
Either way, Yamaha keep referencing more power and more speed, so it’ll be interesting to see what they reveal…
