Knox All Sports jacket aims to make textiles stylish

Textile jackets are useful, practical, but often leave you looking like the Michelin Man or you’ve lost an argument with a billowing tent. It’s why leather jackets have always worked, but the Knox All Sports jacket could actually change that.

First up is the fact Knox jackets are made from a textured woven twill. Which sounds like the sort of thing you’d choose for an afternoon of grouse hunting with a shotgun under your arm, or taking a break from writing philosophy for late supper at an exclusive London club.

But it also has abrasion-resistant panels of stretch fabric on the shoulders and elbows, so it’s a proper motorcycle jacket. Along with a waterproof and breathable 10k laminated membrane, and a ‘Durable Water Resistant’ finish on the fabric. Which basically means water should bead off, rather than soaking into your jacket.

There are more nice touches. The main front zip is a water-resistant YKK Aquaguard to stop liquid sneaking in, and there are three concealed YKK zipped vents if you’re riding in warmer weather. Plus the ribbed collar and cuffs are removable, and there’s a breathable cotton interior lining with taffeta sleeves.

But the most interesting aspect is that the Knox All Sports is another part of their Studio Collection. Which means, like their wax cotton and leather jackets, the protection is supplied by a separate Knox Armoured Shirt available separately.

Unzip the Dual Fit underarm zips and the armour will fit underneath with CE-approved protection at shoulders, elbows and back. Plus you can fit base, mid-layers or a quilted thermal jacket in there. And when you’re not riding, just zip everything up and you won’t look like you’ve got space for another person in there…

The leather jackets in the Studio Collection were interesting, but the All Sports textile is probably an even better use of the idea. In Grey and Black it’d be perfect for riding to work, ditching the armour, and then wearing during the day.
