I tend to associate them more with fishing or skiing, the new Weise Tempest Salopettes seem like a decent option if you want the extra coverage compared to trousers, along with the adjustable braces to hold them up.
Sitting much higher on your body means they’ll keep you dry even when you’re wearing a shorter motorcycle jacket. And being made from tear-resistant Ripstop waterproof PU laminated fabric with taped and welded seams should mean they’re comfortable and able to deal with heavy rain and winter weather.
The long waterproof main zipper and expanders on the legs should make the salopettes easy to take on and off, along with a micro-mesh lining. Which is handy if you’re wearing them over office clothes for commuting, or don’t want to be messing around after a long wet ride. And while you’re riding, the breathable micropores in the laminated film should stop you from overheating and sweating too much, but still keeps rain on the outside, where it belongs.
You also get a couple of external pockets with waterproof zips so your essentials don’t end up soggy, and 3M Scotchlite reflective panels for safety.
On one hand, I do think the salopettes might make me look like a stunt double for Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing, but getting older and riding in enough rain and snow over the years, I’m happy sacrificing a little style for practicality and comfort.
