I’m far from a competent off-road rider, despite the best efforts of friends, and instructors on various courses. But at least I might look a bit cooler using the new LS2 Charger Goggles with iridium lenses as standard.
There are seven different lens and strap combinations to choose from, ensuring you can pick the right combination to match your riding kit. And they’re also road-legal in the UK, as they’re certified to the EN 1938:2010 standard for motorcycle eyewear. Which is handy if you tend to ride your bike to local trails or a nearby MX track.
Having not changed out my goggles for years, I can’t say whether the 185mm vertical and 86mm horizontal field of view is better than other alternatives on the market. But the iridium Lexan lens is anti-fog, abrasion and impact resistant, with both UVA and UVB protection, which sounds pretty good, along with the nine-pin retention system for stability, and the ability to use tear-offs if I suddenly start competing in AMA Supercross.
The TPU faceplate features a hypoallergenic triple-layer foam, with ventilation holes to help you stay cool, and a 45mm elasticatred trap reinforced with non-slip silicone so the goggles shouldn’t be slipping around when you’re riding. And the frame is also large enough to fit comforably over most glasses.
Being reminded that I should probably upgrade my goggles before I next go riding off road, there’s some good news. The LS2 Charger Goggles only cost £24.99, and come with both a handy textile storage bag, and microfibre lens cleaning cloths. So at least it won’t be expensive to replace my old disintegrating examples.
