It might not be the obvious choice for an outfit, but Watsonian sidecars can now fit the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401. And you’ll certainly stand out with the single cylinder, A2 license compliant, 399cc naked bike.
First released in 2018, it received a major update for 2024. And the new fitting kit from Watsonian allows you to fit a suitable sidecar to the 44bhp bike. The three choices are the International, Prescott and GP Manx sidecar bodies, with the International suiting the off-road style of the Husqvarna.
The fitting kit features a subframe which bolts onto the steel trellis used by the Svartpilen, providing mounting points for the lower attachment arms, and allowing you to set up the right axle lead, toe-in and lean-out for stability and handling.
Having produced motorcycles since 1903 in Sweden, Husqvarna was acquired by KTM in 2013 after periods as part of Cagiva/MV Agusta and BMW. It’s now also owned by Bajaj Auto, who have a 48% share of KTM, and are now the third-largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world. The Svartpilen and Vitpilen range now cover 125 to 801cc machines, with the 799cc Svartpilen 801 arriving in 2024.
If you fancy the outfit above, you’ll need a Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 with new models listed from £5,599 on the road, although you can find cheaper secondhand examples from sites including eBay. An International Sidecar will cost you from £4,895 new in black gelcoat, although Watsonian do also sell used sidecars and complete outfits as well.
