There are lots of interesting motorcycles and scooters open for bids on July 12th, including this ex Paul Weller 1968 Lambretta SX200 up for auction at the H&H Classics event at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull.
Along with a BSA Vetter Rocket 3 ‘X-75 Hurricane Protoype’, and a 2001 Harley-Davidson Night Train owned by Guy ‘Skid’ Wilson, there’s also a Vespa PK125 owned by Knightsbridge safety deposit box robber Valerio Viccei, and this Lambretta formerly owned by the ‘Modfather’.
The former frontman for The Jam and the Style Council bought the SX200 in 1991 while working on his second solo album, Wild Wood, with the Lambretta featuring in the album artwork. It also appeared in the video for Friday Street, a single from his 1997 Heavy Soul album. It was eventually autographed and donated for a Teenage Cancer Trust auction in 2002, and has spent the last 20 years in the collection of a huge fan of the singer and musician.
The 1968 Lambretta SX200 has recently had a refresh by specialist Amandos Scooters, costing £8,778. But it still has all the chrome paint and keys from Weller’s ownership, which also getting a 12-volt elecrtic conversion, long-range fuel tank, larger Dellorto caburettor and big bore exhaust. Along with the V5 logbook showing is real name, you also get lots of documenation and memorabilia, including magazines and newspapers featuring Weller with his scooter, and correspondance from previous auctioneers.
Other bikes up for auction include a 1949 Vincent HRD Black Shadow, a 1967 ex Bol d’Or Velocette Thruxton, both a Kawasaki Z900 A4 and Z1000 A1 from 1977, and more recent bikes including a 2000 MV Agusta F4.
A total of more than 150 lots will go under the hammer at the H&H Classics sale at the National Motorcycle Museum on 12th July, 2023, and if you’re interested in any of them, you can bid in-person, online, on the phone or by leaving a commission bid, but you’ll need to register via the H&H website.
