Launched in 2006 as classic and sporty scooter, the new 2023 Vespa GTv gets more power with the 300cc single-cylinder engine putting out 23.8hp.
The most powerful engine supplied by Vespa has previously been used in the GTS range since 2018. But now the Euro 5 powerplant features in the more racing-inspired GTv, which has a low-mounted headlight, exposed handlebars and other features to make you think of motorsport more than commuting.
For the new model year, you also now get full LED light clusters, and completely digital instruments. The top fairing is smaller to give a racing feel, with horizontal air slots, and an optional orange top fairing available as an upgrade. You also get new matt black five spoke wheels, and the two-tone single seat with the option of adding a separate seat cowl. But you’re still able to carry a pillion legally, with a matt black passenger grab handle and footrests, along with all the other trim in the same colour.
Along with the USB port in the storage compartment, ASR electronic traction control and ABS, you also now get a keyless ignition system. And you can connect your smartphone via the Vespa MIA system (available separately) to play music or make phone calls.
Originally, Vespa scooters raced against similar capacity motorcycles before branching into distinct race series. So the GTv does refer back to a long history of racing, and it’s definitely the model that most appears to me in terms of looks.
The new 2023 Vespa GTv is available in two colour schemes, with Beige Avvolgente Opaco and Nero Convinto to choose from.
