Senna Agius Will Stand In For Sam Lowes in Moto2

Australian teenager Senna Agius will stand in for Sam Lowes in Moto2, riding with the Elf Marc VDS Team for the rounds in Austria and San Marino. The 17-year-old currently rides in the European Moto2 series for the PromoRacing Team.

Like most outfits in the championship, both teams use the Kalex Moto2 chassis, and Agius has already taken six podiums from eight rounds so far, including two wins at Barcelona. The 17-year-old has previously ridden in the Asia Talent Cup and All Japan National Series after switching from dirt track and motocross.

“Firstly, I’d like to wish Sam a speedy recovery. I would also like to say a huge thank you to the Elf Marc VDS Racing Team for giving me this opportunity to make my debut in the Moto2 World Championship. I can’t wait to get started at the Austrian Grand Prix. This is a big childhood dream of mine and I’m very excited to accomplish it with such an amazing team to learn from. I will give my best to represent the Elf Marc VDS colours.“

Lowes dislocated his left shoulder in a crash during the first practice session for his home round at Silverstone, and further checks also revealed a small fracture at the top of his left humerus bone. The 31-year-old British rider is aiming to return for the Gran Premio de Aragon on from September 18th.

It’s been a tough season for the former 2010 British Supersport, and 2013 World Supersport, champion. He’s currently in 14th place in the standings on 51 points, 120 behind championship leader Augusto Fernandez, and 57 behind team-mate Tony Arbolino. With six retirements and two DNS so far this year, hopefully the final six rounds will show a return to the form which saw him finish third in the series in 2020, and fourth in 2021.
