Given the disruption for everyone over the last 24 months, we can only hope that the dates don’t need to be changed as the BarbersRide returns for a 6th year in 2022. It’s currently scheduled to kick off on August 6th as riders will raise money for the Make-A-Wish charity.
Started by a group of motorcycling barbers, the previous events have raised more than £86,000 for charities including Great Ormond Street and Alder Hey Children’s Hospitals. And despite the challenges, it was still able to take place in 2021. A total of 40 riders travelled 1,671 miles across the Scottish Highlands and Northern England, collecting more than £20,000.
The concept is pretty simple. You ride between barbershops, for a combination of motorcycles, hair and beard trimming, and hanging out over some beers and entertainment. For 2022, the provisional route will take in Redruth, Exmouth, Southampton, and Brighton, before finishing on August 11th in Broadstairs. If you want to take part, it costs £180 per rider, with full access to the gatherings each evening, five days or riding, and a goody bag worth £75 from sponsors, along with photos and videos of your trip. Limited places are available.
“Make-A-Wish grants special wishes for sick children when they are most in need and bring positivity and happiness in times of distress. We really wanted to work with a national children’s charity so that children from each region could benefit – Make-A-Wish were the perfect organisation to partner with. We even managed to ride in 2020, observing social distancing, and had incredible support from our sponsors, our riders, the barbers and barbershops and of course the guests at every event.”
You’re also able to sign up for just one leg of the journey if you can’t take on the whole thing. And you can sign up here. The best thing is that 100% of all funds raised or donated go to the good causes, with the BarbersRide crew all volunteering for the event.
