They might not be the most exciting thing you’ll ever purchase for your motorcycle, but there’s a reason why bike couriers and commuters have often resorted to this simple weather protection. And the new Wunderlich Handlebar Cuff Muffs do add modern materials and features to make things more practical and convenient.
Handlebar muffs mean you can keep your hands warm and dry without switching to bulkier winter kit, which means you can keep a better feel of the bars and controls. And you don’t end up walking around with wet gloves on if you’re stopping frequently, or having to try and dry them out before the commute home in the evening.
The Wunderlich examples are made from water-repellent and windproof Cordura to keep the wind and rain out, and there’s an elasticated gaiter with an adjustable toggle to close around your arm if anything starts sneaking inside through the opening.
Sized to fit over most hand protectors, and they come with a moulded insert to help the muffs keep their shape at higher speeds, and stop them getting in the way. One nice feature is that there’s a transparent PVC window in each muff, so you’re not operating the controls blind.
Quick and easy to fit or remove, the Wunderlich Handlebar Cuff Muffs are slipped over the bars and then held in place with strong elastic. The addition cuff attaches to the mirror arm with an adhesive band and zipper to create a tight seal and offer extra stability, but if your mirrors are fairing-mounted, it can be hidden away under a zip. And they also have some reflective elements to help people see you on the road.
The Wunderlich Handlebar Cuff Muffs cost £129 for a pair, and are designed to fit the latest range of BMW motorcycles, including the R 1250 GS and Adventure, but will also be suitable for most modern motorcycles.
