The Honda RC30 Forever Parts Scheme Arrives Across Europe

Keeping a classic motorcycle running can be a challenge when you need specific replacement parts. And that applies pretty equally across all older machines. But if you’re incredibly lucky enough to own one of the 3,000 Honda VFR750R RC30 models ever produced, then there’s good news as the Honda RC30 Forever parts scheme arrives across Europe.

The RC30 was produced in limited numbers between 1987 and 1990 to meet the homologation rules for World Superbikes. The liquid-cooled 748cc V4 featured the latest racing technology including titanium connecting rods, taller race gearing and a slipper clutch. Along with lots of magnesium, carbon and kevlar throughout the bike, along with Showa fully-adjustable suspension, quick release wheels and brake pads, and a ‘Pro Squat Rear Brake Linkage’ to reduce the rear wheel hopping when you’re braking.

The result was a 153mph top speed from 118hp and 88kW of torque, a 12,500rpm redline, a 1/4 mile time of 11.8 seconds, and the ability to reach 82mph in first gear. Along with the first two WSB championship titles with Fred Merkel, 1989 and 1990 Macau Grand Prix victories with Robert Dunlop and Steve Hislop, and multiple Isle of Man TT wins ridden by Hishop, Joey Dunlop, Carl Fogarty and Phillip McCallen.

It’s not surprising that the combination of technology and racing history means the price to buy a Honda RC30 has risen significantly since it launched at £8,500. You’re currently looking at somewhere between £30-£40,000 to secure a good secondhand example. So most owners are passionate, and reasonably wealthy. Which is probably why RC30 owners clubs were able to persuade Honda to start making genuine parts once again.

The Honda RC30 Forever parts scheme originally launched in Japan in 2020, and includes a range of apprximately 150 genuine replacement parts across the engine, chassis, bodywork and electronics. The selection has been based on owner requests and expert insight into the bikes.

What’s most impressive about the scheme is that Honda discovered none of the original wooden models or RC30 moulds had been kept. And in the 1980s, the RC30 design was based on 2D hand-drawn wireframe blueprints, which had to be digitised, enlaraged and then compared with parts borrowed from RC30 owners. And then original team members were contacted to share their knowledge as wooden models and moulds were created once again.

So even if you’re not lucky enough to benefit from the Honda RC30 Forever parts scheme to keep your own Honda VFR750R on the road, it’s still an inpsiring story of a manufacturer going the extra mile to be able to provide high quality genuine replacement parts for a legendary motorcycle.
