MotoAmerica Twins Cup Debut For the Aprilia RS 660

MotoAmerica Twins Cup Debut For the Aprilia RS 660

April 28, 2021 By DanThornton Leave a Comment

There are a few reasons to check out the U.S national superbike series this weekend, including the MotoAmerica Twins Cup debut for the Aprilia RS 660.

The middleweight twin-cylinder class features four-stroke motorcycles from 600 to 800cc, and more than 10 riders will be competing on the newly homologated Aprilia RS 660 at Road Atlanta on April 30th, 2021. And that includes Kaleb DeKeyrel, who finished the series as runner-up in 2020, third place finished Hayden Shultz, and fifth placed Toby Khamsouk all riding for the Robem Engineering team.

Luckily, the MotoAmerica series is available to watch for free outside the U.S via their Youtube channel, which includes the Twins Cup races. So you can catch up with all the action, including the Supersport and Superbike races, which can be interesting given the very different nature of American circuits, and the fact you generally don’t get to see bike racing at Road Atlanta, Barber or Pittsburgh unless you’re in the U.S.

“With over 28 riders entered for this weekend’s Twins Cup race, it’s exciting to see that the new Aprilia 660 will take to the track with 8 competitors for the new machines’ debut in MotoAmerica,” explains Chuck Aksland, Partner in MotoAmerica, “We’ve followed the progress of the RS 660 since it was announced and our staff worked hand in hand with Aprilia to ensure that it could compete this season.  Not many people have seen the bike on-track and the anticipation certainly brings another level of excitement to the weekend. We truly welcome Aprilia into our paddock and look forward to working with them for seasons to come.”

The new Aprilia RS 660 has launched for 2021 at a price of £10,150 for the road version, and offering 99bhp and 183kg, it’s almost like a mini RSV4 superbike but easier to live with. So it should make the switch to circuits pretty well.

Outside the U.S, Aprlia Racing has also launched the Aprilia RS 660 Trofeo spec series in Italy, which starts at Misano in May 2021, with riders from 15-years-old competing on bikes delivering 105hp and weighing just 337 pounds.
