The LS2 Challenger motorcycle helmet has been around for a while now, in a choice of carbon or fibreglass shells. And for 2020, the carbon LS2 Challenger helmet gets new designs and colours to compliment the look of fibre.
The new combinations are the Grid design in either Matt Carbon Orange, Blue Carbon Red, or our favourite, Antique Gold. Or you can choose the Drone design, in either Matt Carbon Blue, or the Matt Carbon Hi Vis Yellow that we’d pick.
As a child of the 1980s, the combination of gold and black carbon fibre makes me immediately remember the JPS Nortons (and the Lotus F1 team), so that instantly becomes my favourite.
But all the designs do a pretty good job of complimentating the carbon fibre used for the shell.
Speaking of which, the Challenger range were developed with input from their supported GP riders, including John McPhee (who has an LS2 replica available for £249.99 based on the Arrow helmet). And the use of carbon fibre for the shell means the Challenger can come in at a weight of 1350 grams.
For aerodynamics and comfort, the helmet has a long-oval shape, and there are three shell sizes across the fitments from XXS-3XL.
The quick release polycarbonate visor is ready for tear-offs and comes with a Pinlock Max Vision Anti Fog system. Plus there’s an internal flip-down sun visor. Because dark visors are only meant to be used on track, and LS2 have a full range from yellow and iridium to dark tints for all racing conditions.
If you do intend to go on a race circuit, the Challenger is ACU Gold approved as well as ECE 2205 for road use. It’s secured with a traditional D-ring system, and the chin strap is help with a metal security plate which is unique to LS2.
Comfort is taken care off with a removable and washable liner which is breathable and hypoallergenic. The cheek pads feature an Emergency Release System, and there’s enough ventilation to keep you nice and cool.
Another bit of good news is that the LS2 Challenger Carbon isn’t ridiculously expensive. The various designs come in at £329.99, and the existing solid carbon finish is a little cheaper.
