Saying that 2020 isn’t great for motorcycling might be a bit of an understatement. But at least there’s some good news from last year as Ducati grew revenue and margins in 2019, showing that the Bologna firm might have cash in the bank to help it weather the current situation.
The year saw 53,183 Ducatis delivered, compared to 53,004 in 2018. Which is a small growth, but it’s the fifth year that the company has sold more than 50,000 units.
Perhaps more important is the fact that Ducati is increasing the revenue and margins from each motorcycle sold. The 2019 turnover was €716 million, up from €699 million in 2018, and their operating margin also increased to 7.2%.
The turnover per bike figure also increased to a new high of around €13,500 per bike. Indicating that Ducati has been moving with the bike market towards higher and more premium motorcycles over time.
The Ducati Panigale was the best-selling super sports bike in the world for the second year in a row, with a 25% market share. And the Multistrada family of bikes recorded the highest value of motorcycles sold since they were introduced in 2003, helped by the new Multistrada 950 S and the revamped 1260 Enduro.
Ducati currently employs a total of 1,655 employees, with a sales network including 720 dealers and service points in more than 90 countries.
