It’s no surprise that there will be some special BMWS at the CUSTOMBIKE-SHOW 2019, as the German custom event is one of the largest around. BMW will be represented by 11 bikes among more than 300 companies and 1,000 custom motorcycles, but if you’re attending, they’ll be worth checking out.
The BMW Motorrad Concept R 18 /2
The first of the special BMWs at the CUSTOMBIKE-SHOW 2019 is the BMW Motorrad Concept R 18 /2 which you’ll be able to see close up for the first time.

Like the first Concept R 18, it’s based around the most powerful production Boxer engine ever produced by the company. The ‘Big Boxer’ is a 91hp 2-cylinder, 1802cc monster with a maximum of 158Nm torque. And it’s been designed to combine modern technology with inspiration from the classic engines of the 1930s-1950s BMW bikes.

This bike is a more modern cruiser concept. And it should appeal to those who like that style of bike, but with contemporary styling and plenty of power on tap.
The BMW Motorrad R 5 Hommage
We featured the BMW Motorrad R 5 Hommage in detail when it was first unveiled at the 2016 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, but it’s worth mentioning again. Mainly because it’s lovely.

It classic look comes from a custom frame and parts, with an original race engine now featuring a specially developed supercharger. Upping the power somewhat from the original 1935 BMW R5.
More special BMWS at the CUSTOMBIKE-SHOW 2019
That’s 2 of the BMWs covered. But also appearing will be a selection of ‘SoulFuel Bikes’ which top cusom builders have created from BMW motorcycles.
They include the Maximator built by BMW Motorrad development engineer Ulf Musekamp, based on a BMW R 1200 C. And also appearing will be the Type 18 models by the likes of Auto Fabrica, and the Achilles from Phil Karftstoffschmiede, based on a BMW R1250RS, plus some of the best custom R nineT versions.
If you haven’t had a look at CUSTOMBIKE-SHOW before, then it runs from December 6th-8th 2019 in Bad Salzuflen, in Germany. It claims to be the world’s largest custom bike show, including a special exhibition this year based around teenage rides from Kreidler, Hercules, Puch and Zundapp, plus the European Biker Build-Off 2019 between MCSands Motor Shop and SS Cycle/ Fred Flitzefuß Karosseriebau, which pits a husband and wife team against a father and son outfit.
