What do you get up to when you’re not able to ride your bike? Well, it seems a growing number of us are swapping to virtual motorcycling judging as RIDE returns with a Yamaha partnership to tie-in with the game.
Created in Italy by developers Milestone, the RIDE series began in 2015 to let you compete on a range of road and race bikes without having to risk injury.
And to demonstrate how popular the games have been so far, apparently they’ve had 1.5 million players buy 52 million motorcycles, and take part in more than 238 million races, covering over 233 billion kilometres. Which makes it a good way to get motorcycling in front of younger gamers who might be converted into riding bikes for real as a result.
Yamaha obviously think so, as they’ve apparently agreed a special collaboration with the developers. There’s not much in the way of details, but there will apparently be ‘digital and in-store activations with exciting activities’ whatever that actually means. And probably a smattering of legendary Yamahas prominently featured in the game.
Either way, you should be reasonably entertained by the wide range of bikes to obtain and customise. The last title in the series, appropriately namjed RIDE 3, had 230 bikes from 1966 to current models, and 30 tracks including the likes of Brands Hatch, Cadwell Park and Oulton Park.
And apparently there will be some all-new features in the new game which haven’t been seen before in the RIDE series. But we’re sure the customisation options will still be there to upgrade everything from exhausts and fairings to the colour of your handlebar grips to get the all-important colour co-ordination.
