The dual sport category of motorcycles and apparel has become more and more popular in recent years. And it’s easy to understand why when you can ride to somewhere away from traffic and noise, have fun, and head home without having to change bikes and kit. Full-on motocross helmets are fine, but dual sport versions offer less faff for the Tarmac bits. And they keep the cool off-road looks, as with the new LS2 Pioneer Dual Sport helmet colours in Matt Titanium Blue (Quarterback) and High-Visibility Yellow.
So let’s deal with the off-road side first. Apparently the LS2 Pioneer Dual Sport helmet has been designed with input from LS2 sponsored motocross, enduro and supermoto racers. If you want to know names, LS2 does have a list of their supported professionals. The result comes with an outer shell made from the Kinetic Polymer Alloy the firm uses for a strong and lightweight solution. It’s got flexibility to absorb energy, and high penetration resistance. Which is essential if you’re spending time either getting hit by branches and stones or picking yourself up off the floor, which is standard for our typical days trail riding.
The shell also comes in three sizes, with a long oval shape to follow most skull shapes. So you get the lightest, best option to match your exact helmet size.
Whether enduro or motocross, riding on dirt tends to build up a sweat pretty quickly. So inside is a breathable, hypoallergenic lining with dynamic flow-through ventilation. You’ll probably have all the adjustable intake ports wide open to feed the internal channels and exit vents until it comes to riding home. But when you do get back, the removable and washable lining means you won’t be smelling the memories of your last ride when you wear the LS2 again.
When you’re riding on the roads, you’ll be legal as the LS2 Pioneer Dual Sport Helmet is ECE 22.05 approved. And you won’t have to put up with the wind blast and frustration that sometimes comes from wearing goggles, particularly at higher speeds. The quick-release high-grade polycarbonate visor is scratch and UV-resistant, plus it’s also Pinlock-ready. And there’s a handy drop-down Sun Visor.
No-one ever wants to think about injury. But the LS2 Pioneer Dual Sport helmet does have an emergency release system which allows the cheek pads to be removed in seconds. Which means the helmet can be removed with the least movement to your head and neck, preventing any further injuries.
The LS2 Pioneer Dual Sport Helmet is available in sizes XXS-3XL in a choice of four solid and four graphic finishes, including the solid H-V Yellow and graphic Matt Titanium Blue Quarterback. The other solid colours are White, Matt Titanium and Matt Black, and all the single colour range cost £99.99. The other graphics are the White and Black Chaos, Matt Titanium Black element, and a White, Red and Blue version of the Quarterback design, and they’re all £119.99.
