The new LS2 Xtra motorcycle helmet combines off-road style with carbon fibre to be tough and light. Which means it works for motocross, enduro, or supermoto. And also for anyone who wants the off-road look on Tarmac. Fortunately it’s fully ECE22.05 certified to be legal for riding on the road as well as the dirt.
The shell of the LS2 Xtra motorcycle helmet is a 100% high-grade wide weave carbon fibre. Which means it looks cool, but also has high penetration resistance. At the same time it’s also flexible to help disperse the energy from an impact, so it doesn’t become concentrated in one exact spot on the shell.
The other benefit of carbon fibre is that it’s light. The LS2 Xtra weighs around 1159 grams. And to help keep weight down, and to get the best fit, the helmet is offered in three shell sizes. The shape is a long oval, to help keep things comfortably snug and secure.
Inside the Xtra is a breathable and hypoallergenic ‘Extra Comfort Lining’, which is removable and washable. Which is useful if you’re coming home covered in mud. No one likes a stinky helmet. And there are also ton and chin vents feeding into internal channels and through to the exhaust ports at the rear. Even with a large front opening, the amount of effort you put into riding off-road means you still need plenty of airflow to stay cool and comfortable. Especially if you’re going all out on a motocross track or riding slowly down green lanes on a hot day.
Speaking of the front aperture, it’s designed for good all-around vision and to fit most types of riding goggles. You can also fit either the long or short peaks included with the LS2 Xtra, to suit the riding conditions.
The LS2 Xtra motorcycle helmet also features a reinforced chin strap with double D-ring fastener, and an LS2 signature metal security plate. If you should suffer a fall, the emergency release system allows first responders to remove the cheek pads to then remove the helmet with minimal movement of your head and neck.
Sizes for the LS2 MX471 Xtra are XS-XXL (53-64cm), and it’s available purely in the carbon fibre finish for £399.99. As a new product it’s not in all dealers yet, but you can already pre-order from retailers including Ghost Bikes.
