Italian scooter firm Vespa has long produced a range of open-face helmets. It’s generally so you can buy something to match the style of your scooter. But you might just like the design, features and historic name, and still ride something else. Either way, the new Vespa VJ and VJ1 helmet colours out now will give you decent features for a reasonable price.

Basically both the Vespa VJ and Vespa VJ1 helmets are identical in construction, design and features. The only difference is that the VJ comes with a full-length external clear visor as standard. And slightly confusingly, the VJ1 doesn’t. Add a number and lose a feature, apparently, resulting in a £14 difference in price. And a slightly cleaner design without the visor, if we’re honest. Also it appears that while the colours are new, the helmets haven’t changed since 2015 as far as we can tell, so they must have been doing something right in terms of sales and performance.

So now we’ve cleared that up, what are the Vespa VJ and VJ1 helmets actually made from? Well, the shells are strong and light ABS plastic. And inside is a breathable, washable and removable lining. Handy if you’ve spent the week stuck in traffic on hot days.
Although only the Vespa VJ model has the external clear visor, both helmets come with a retractable sun visor. Which looks cooler, anyway, even if it won’t protect your face from anything more than sunlight. Fortunately the helmet is certified to the ECE 2205 standard, and you can get it on and off with the adjustable quick-release strap.
As you might expect, the Vespa VJ and VJ1 helmets are designed to fit in the underseat storage or top box on most scooters. And the paint schemes are selected to try and match the latest models in the Vespa range. You also get some stylish chrome trim and a subtle Vespa logo.
Vespa VJ Helmet Sizes, Colours and Price:
The Vespa VJ Helmet (that’s the one with the external visor) is available in sizes XS-Xl, and will cost you £139 with a choice of Azure Blue, Burgundy, Coral or Cream.
Vespa VJ1 Helmet Sizes, Colours and Price:
The Vespa VJ1 is also available in sizes XS-XL, but costs slightly less at £125. And the colours are Orange, Titanium, Yellow and Green.
And that’s about it really. The new Vespa VJ and VJ1 helmet colours out now will suit owners of Vespa scooters, other moped and scooter riders, or possibly anyone stuck commuting in town on bigger bikes that needs an alternative to a full-face lid for low speed riding.
