The BMW motorcycle range includes a number of liquid-cooled R-series models. That includes the BMW R 1200 GS and Adventure, BMW R 1200 R, RS and RT. And all of them can now benefit from the new Wunderlich Paralever Protector.
Apparently the hollow-drilled rear axle and Paralever joint can be susceptible to damage from obstacles and debris. That’s probably more of a problem for the dual sport BMW GS and Adventure models. When you’re tackling a rocky trail, you’ll end up with stones, rocks and boulders all trying to do damage. But even the road-focused machines can face problems like high kerbs, or particularly vicious speed bumps. And given the state of UK roads, potholes are probably as much of a problem.
So the new Wunderlich Paralever Protector is a 3mm stainless steel cover which will wrap around the lower section of the rear drive housing. So you get an extra layer on top of the original light alloy casing to keep it intact. And it will mount via existing points on the drive, and with minimal weight it won’t affect either the cornering or the handling. Plus the protector won’t interfere with access for servicing, maintenance or taking the rear-wheel out.
The Wunderlich Paralever Protector comes in black powdercoat to blend in with the style of the various BMW R series models and to help prevent corrosion. And you can add the Wunderlich rear axle sliders as well, to give even more protection. It comes with all the required fittings and fixings, plus a five year guarantee, at a cost of £109.00. Which is a fair bit less than buying a new replacement drive unit from BMW, especially if it also involves being recovered from a remote trail somewhere.
