The range of Peugeot Belville scooters are big sellers in Europe. And the French firm has decided to start bringing them to the UK. The reason is that the shoddy state of roads in the UK mean big-wheeled scooters and larger tyres are becoming more and more popular. So while we hope local councils find ways to actually repair the roads, more and more people are coping by riding scooters that can cope better with potholes and other obstacles.
It makes sense that Peugeot Belville scooters will handle rough roads better than smaller-wheeled alternatives. The front 16″ 110/70 tyre and rear 14″ 110/80 will give a much smoother ride. Hence why they’re popular with European riders and British pizza delivery firms.
The only real drawback is that the larger wheels don’t look as cool. Peugeot has tried to account for this by naming the scooters after the famous Belville district of Paris, which is popular with artists and musicians.
For 2018 there are two engine sizes, which each have two versions available. The 2018 Peugeot Belville 125 is fitted with the liquid-cooled four-stroke SmartMotion engine to give up to 113mpg. And offer 8.3Kw of power, which is just over 11hp. So not lightning quick, but the 125cc Belville only weighs 130kg, so it should be more than usable.
It also has a 260mm front disc, a rear 220mm disc and ABS as standard. The seat height is 790mm, and there is the usual space for a full-face helmet under the seat. You also get a lockable glove compartment with a USB charger. If you go for the 2018 Peugeot Belville 125 Allure version, you get a 37-litre top case colour-matched to the seat of your scooter as standard.
The sportier 2018 Pegueot Belville 125 RS costs the same price at £3099. But ditches the top box for a slightly racier look, along with different paint and graphics. Both feature an LED front headlight and the signature Peugeot ‘triple claw’ rear daytime running light.
The 2018 Peugeot Belville 200i follows the same pattern. It gets the larger air-cooled, fuel-injected 169cc EasyMotion engine, to give 8.8Kw of power, which is about 12hp. Not a massive increase, but you get the same 790mm seat height, and it’s only 4kg heavier. The only other difference is the slightly larger 240mm rear disc brake.
Everything else is the same, with the 200i also coming in the Allure version with matching top case, and an RS version, both of which will cost you £3199. All the 2018 Peugeot Belville scooters will be covered by a 24-month manufacturer warranty.
