Motohansa Pro Compact Tool Kit – Designed By A Dakar Racer

Motohansa Pro Compact Tool Kit – Designed By A Dakar Racer

Simon Pavey knows a fair bit about keeping motorcycles going in tough conditions. Competing in world rally events since the late 1990s, he’s completed the Dakar seven times. And when he’s not competing, Pavey runs the BMW off-road training course for total beginners up to experienced riders. So the fact he’s designed the new Motohansa Pro Compact Tool Kit is a good sign.

Pavey has entered the Dakar Rally 10 times in total, finished in seven of them. And with son Llewelyn, they became the first father-son team to finish the competition in 2015. Plus he’s competed in races like the Transorientale Rally, trained Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman for their round-the-world trips and Boorman’s own Dakar Rally, and helped people like me learn how to ride off-road without making a complete mess of it.

Incidentally, I can vouch for the quality of his training. And the immediate results. When I left the Welsh training facility, I took a wrong turn, shot over the crest of a hill at about 60mph, and found myself going down a steep gravel road on a Honda CBR600. Two days earlier, I would have been on the floor pretty soon, but instead I stayed calm, locked and released the brakes as taught, and came to a stop in a sweaty, relieved mess before turning around and riding home.

So it’s safe to say Mr Pavey has earned my trust. But back to the Motohansa Pro Compact Tool Kit. Like Pavey, Motohansa originates from Australia, and a chap called Rob Dunston who was originally importing BMW parts for his own bikes, and then selling them wholesale around 1990.

The Motohansa Pro Compact Tool Kit comes in a water-resistant 600 denier Cordura pouch which is small enough to go under a motorcycle seat or in your luggage. But still contains a 38-piece assortment which should get you back on the move. Or as a useful garage and workshop collection. The tools meet both DIN and ANSI standards, and come available for Honda, KTM and BMW motorcycles. DIN is the German standards institute, which ANSI refers to the American version.

The Motohansa Pro Compact Tool Kit Contents:

  • 1/4″ Drive Flexi Head Ratchet which is unique to Motohansa, and can be used from any angle as a:
    – Socket ratchet
    – Bit driver
    – Screwdriver
  • Motohansa Multi Tool
  • 24 x Quality S2 bits that are sand blasted & nickel-plated for long life
  • 9 x 1/4″ Chrome vanadium Flank traction system sockets
  • 1/4″ 100mm Extension bar
  • 1/4″ to S2 Bit adaptor
  • Pencil Tire pressure gauge

So with the Motohansa Pro Compact Tool Kit, you get a 38-piece set designed by a Dakar racer, and in a tough pouch which is easy to store. And they’re not too expensive either. The Motohansa Pro Compact Tool Kit for Honda or KTM motorcycles will cost you £69. And the Motohansa Pro Compact Tool Kit for BMWs costs £89. And while it might save you a bit stranded by the side of a UK dual carriageway, it’ll be worth a lot more if you’re somewhere more remote.
