The new LS2 Spitfire open face motorcycle helmet is the latest from the almost 30-year-old Chinese brand. We’ve already covered the Valiant, Rapid and Metro in the last few months, which shows how keen the company is to expand their range across Europe, having also set up in the U.S and Canada in the past. The LS2 Spitfire is definitely aimed at the more price-conscious end of the market. But it still looks pretty good, and has decent specs.
It’s an open face demi-jet design with an interal drop-down sun visor. Nothing too radical, but simple and stylish enough in plain colours. And the Sunrise design in either Brown with Yellow, Orange and Red stripes or in Brown/White does look cool in a 1970s sofa vibe. So it’ll work with a cafe racer or retro naked type motorcycle. And there are solid and graphics options which are a bit more cruiser friendly. Plus it should also appeal to modern and vintage scooter riders.
It’s ECE 2205 approved for road use, with a high pressure thermoplastic outer shell. Which means it’s also light at 1150g. The visor is supposed to be easy to use with motorcycle gloves on, and offers shorter and longer positions which is a nice touch. It’s made from high spec polycarbonate which is scratch and UV resistant. But there’s also a retaining strap at the back if you prefer to wear motorcycle goggles.
Inside the new LS2 Spitfire open face motorcycle helmet is a breathable, hypoallergenic liner. There are also laser-cut foam inserts and a neck roll to make the oval-shape of the Spitfire more comfortable and snug-fitting.
As with most cost-effective helmets, it has a quick-release steel buckle fastening. Which is easy to operate with gloves already on.
The compact design and light weight means it should be a good choice to store in a top box on under the seat of your scooter. Whether that’s for you to use, or to have as an additional helmet for a pillion.
So the new LS2 Spitfire open face motorcycle helmet comes from a reasonable brand which has produced their own lids, and products for sale under other names for years. It’s got decent features, is reasonably light, and looks alright. It might not set the world on fire. But considering the LS2 Spitfire comes in sizes XS-XXL (53-64cm) from £69.99 for the solid paint schemes, then it’s darn reasonable. The graphic choices, including the Sunrise design above, cost £79.99. And the Solid Chrome is the only option to top the ton, at £109.99.
