The custom Ultimate Gentleman’s Triumph Thruxton R has been created by Untitled Motorcycles in London. The spark for the idea was a collaboration between Triumph, Barbour International and GQ magazine. And it immediately picked up an award at the GQ Awards 2018 ceremony, dubbed the ‘Best Custom Motorbike We Built (Ok, commissioned) Ourselves’ prize. Which slightly undersells the work Untitled put in.
Apparently the team at British GQ couldn’t decide how to choose the best motorcycle of the year for their awards. Which doesn’t seem the toughest challenge for most journalists and magazines, but it did apparently lead to them wanting to build their own. Well, team up with Barbour and Triumph, and then ask Untitled Motorcycles to build their own, anyway.
So the 1200cc Triumph Thruxton R gained powder-coated gloss black wheels for starters. The black theme continues with the headlight trim, engine cover, tank and side panels. As a result of the partnership, the ‘ultimate gentleman’s motorcycle’ also gets one-off Barbour International briefcases fitted to bespoke rear mounts.
It also gets upgraded front forks, CNC handle bar mounts fitted with Motogadget switches, rubber hand grips, bar end indicators and a new seat unit with a leather diamond-stitched cover.
The one-off award was accepted by Triumph Motorcycles global Chief Commercial Officer Paul Stroud and Unlimited Motorcycles Adam Kay.
“With a 1200cc high-power Thruxton R engine at its heart, the custom GQ machine certainly delivers on performance and the thrill of riding. And, just like the rest of our modern classics family, it also provides plenty of panache for the style-conscious man about town,” said Stroud on receiving the award.
