Triumph Street Triple R Low Arrives In Dealers

The Triumph Street Triple RS may now top the range, but the specification and performance of the R model is still impressive. As a naked streetfighter, it does have a fairly high seat height, but even that’s been cured as the Triumph Street Triple R Low arrives in dealers across the UK from today.

I’ve always enjoyed the Street Triple range. But I’m also on the border between average height and vertically challenged. So I’m familiar with the problems of riding larger bikes. While it’s possible to ride even the biggest bike without necessarily getting both feet flat on the floor, it’s not the most pleasant or relaxing experience at times. One unseen pothole can leave you on your side at the traffic lights for example. Or you have to learn to slide off the side of your adventure bike every time you want to stop.

So it’s good news that there’s an official Triumph Street Triple R Low model with a lower seat height. The standard bike has a height of 825mm, which is a little taller than some rivals (although not massive). But the Low version is 45mm lower at 780mm.

Triumph has done is by reducing the stroke on the front fork, and using a shorter shock absorber on the rear. Plus you also get a marginally lower seat profile. All of which should mean that the handling and performance isn’t affected.  But shorter riders can have a bit more confidence. And the comfort of the seat shouldn’t be a problem. Which is handy if you’ve ever adapted a bike by setting the suspension to soggy, and chopping out all of the seat foam to reach the ground.

The info we have doesn’t mention a price. Which means the Low is probably around the £8,900 of the normal bike (it does mention finance from £109 per month, which is the same), and available in the same Black, White or Silver options. You certainly do get the 116.4bhp new 765cc engine, Brembo brakes, and 166kg dry weight. Which makes for a pretty manageable motorcycle with plenty of performance.
