If you’re riding off-road, you want to have a lot of faith in your throttle control. Especially when you’re as bad on the dirt as I am. So the new Venhill Featherlight Throttle cables for KTM MX and Enduro bikes might not make a noticeable difference to my lap times. But I’ll take anything that will stop me interfacing with a tree. And Venhill claim they’re more durable – and also don’t require lubrication.
Plus they do come in a lovely selection of colours.
For riders good enough to appreciate the difference, the cables directly replace the OEM items. And they should give you a smoother action and improved performance. Part of the reason is the Featherlight cabling. It consists of marine-grade stainless steel wire rope, within a Teflon liner which reduces friction and gives a lighter action.
Apparently the strong inner wire is also ‘bird-caged’. Which is a special process allowing solder to penetrate the weave of the cable and making the bond with the nipple much stronger. And I think all of us can appreciate a strong attachment to our nipples at all times. Especially when it means you get stronger cables and less chance of breakages. Which is pretty important when off-road bikes can take a fairly tough hammering.
I could talk about nipples and lube all day long. But probably more relevant is which bikes can potentially benefit from the Venhill Featherlight throttle cables.
