When it comes to scooters with silly names, the Piaggio Yourban is right up there with the Peugeot Tweet. Presumably it’s a play on ‘urban’, rather than ‘your ban’. But it explains why so many motorcycle manufacturers stick with letters and numbers. Piaggio managed to get it right with the Zip, Typhoon, and the Liberty, but do you really want to ride a Beverly Sport? On the plus side, owners (or Yourbanites?) can cheer themselves up with new bits, as the Piaggio MP3 Yourban 300LT gets official accessories for added security, luggage and weather protection.
As a 300cc scooter with two wheels at the front, it’s a fair bet the Yourban (shudder) will be used for a lot of commuting and urban riding. Which means it’s a likely target for theft. And anything you can do to deter casual thieves means a better chance of being able to ride home from where you park up. So the Piaggio OEM alarm and handlebar lock are both good investments.
The Piaggio E-Power Electronic Alarm comes with an electronic key and 2-button remote control, and a pre-installed plug and play connection, so it’s easy to fit. It’ll cost £143.99. Meanwhile there’s also a Piaggio Seat to Handelbar Lock which will be a more obvious way to discourage casual thieves. It secures the saddle to the handlebar and can be extended to wrap around any nearby solid objects. When you’re not parked, you can store is around the underside of the seat, and it’ll cost you £127. The extension kit is an extra £46.
Riding to work is fun, and cuts commuting time and costs. But it can also mean turning up soaking wet if you don’t have the right kit. Piaggio have thought of this for the Yourban 300LT, and you can now purchase a high quality anti-chip Style windshield to avoid more of the wind and rain. And you can team it with the weatherproof Leg Cover for £98.99 and the padded, waterproof Hand Guards for £44.39. Not particularly aerodynamic or stylish, but better than going into an office meeting with a soaking wet crotch or hands still numb from winter weather.
Finally, Piaggio has also released a new rear top box for the Yourban 300LT. You already have a large compartment under the seat, but the new luggage is big enough for 37 litres. Which means a full-face lid or two open-face helmets will tuck away inside. It has a quick-release fitment, a back-rest for passengers, and comes with a top colour-matched to your scooter for £239.99.
As the Piaggio MP3 Yourban 300LT gets official accessories to make it even more useful, the only thing letting it down as a car alternative is the name.
