Keeping an eye on your battery is one of those things it’s easy to forget. Then you end up missing out on a motorcycle road trip with a flat battery. So the new intACT smart phone battery checker might come in handy. The actual title is the intAct Battery Guard, and it lets you check your charge from up to 6 metres away.
It’s a pretty simple idea. First you attach the Battery Guard unit to your 6 or 12 Volt motorcycle battery, using the eyelet terminals included. And once that’s done, you just need to download the free app to your iOS, Android or Windows 10 smart phone or tablet.
It means from then on you can see the charge on a simple display, with accuracy to within 0.02 Volts. And you can set a minimum value. So the app will automatically send you a notification if your battery is about to go flat. And will also show you a graph to show how quickly it is discharging. And with a range of up to 6 metres (20 feet), you don’t have to unlock your shed or garage every time you want to check it.
So it’s useful if you’re concerned about the drain on your battery from an alarm or tracker. Or if you have one or more motorcycles which aren’t being used all the time. The intACT smart phone battery checker app will work with 10 different IntACT Battery Guard units at once. So you can have one on your car, and several on your bike collection, and see them all through the app.
So if you’ve got a bit of a motorcycle collection, or you’re a motorcycle mechanic, it’d be pretty useful. There’s also a paid version of the app for larger businesses which allows you to track up to 100 batteries at once. Also useful if you happen to run a large motorcycle museum. Or you’ve spent a lifetime accumulating motorcycles!
And it’s relatively cheap. The inACT Battery Guard costs £29.00. And it works on 6, 12 and 24 Volt batteries.
