We wrote about the new Avon Spirit ST tyres when they were announced earlier this month. And now you can find out more from the official launch at Portmao in Portugal.
The hypersport and sport touring rubber was officially revealed at the Algarve International Circuit. And British racer turned commentator and classic competitor Steve Parrish was at the Autodromo Internaccional do Algarve as the new brand ambassador for Avon.
The video features Avon Tyres Design Engineer Ashley Vowles explaining more about the Spirit ST. Including how it was created to try and deliver the ultimate performance in wet weather. As well as performing in the dry. And on smaller and medium-capacity bikes as well as the bigger sports tourers.
The Avon Spirit ST HyperSport Touring Tyre launch included various respected journalists from the motorcycle press. Which probably explains why we weren’t invited.
Ironically the Spirit ST replace the previous Storm 3D X-M model, which were not only tested by our contributor Richard Ashcroft (not the one from the Verve), but we rated well enough to be featured in their official press release.
Here’s the video from that outing at Castle Combe on the 3D Ultra Sport and 3D Storm X-M
Hopefully they’ll have another opportunity for us to sample the new Spirit STs in suitable wet UK conditions at some point!
As we mentioned in the announcement article, the Melksham-based tyre company has created a new carcass and compound loaded with silica, the rear has a multi-compound tread, and the new 3D Sipes not only clear more moisture, but also stop the tread blocks moving around as much to prevent the wobbly feeling you can get.
