The Boneshaker Marrowthon 2017 charity ride is set for Sunday, May 21st. It’s a 35 mile ride from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, to the National Brewery Centre in Burton on Trent. And the route also stops at the popular Bassetts Pole. The destination means that there’s a good selection of food and beer available, so you might want to have someone pick up your bike. And it’s just £5 to take part.
The charity ride started in 2014, after organiser Katherine Sinfield overcame an aggressive form of Leukemia. The BONE-shaker MARROW-thon (to use the official and grammatically troubling name), has already raised thousands of pounds. Proceeds are equally split between Cure Leukemia, Anthony Nolan and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
“Over the years we have managed to establish a great reputation for the ride which has always run to schedule without any hassle. It’s this reputation which means more than 100 bikers regularly turn-out year after year to support the BONE-shaker MARROW-thon,” says Katherine.
“While the first ride in 2014 suffered monsoon weather conditions, every year since we have had stunning sunshine and moving the ride to May this year will hopefully guarantee a great day weather-wise.”
“I was speaking to a biker recently who was worried the ride might clash with his holiday to Devon, but he assured me he would be willing to make the four-hour trip back just for us as the ride is such a great day out.
“We’re also thrilled to retain the support of local students from Burton and South Derbyshire College, who will be pounding the pavements with their collection buckets during the ride.”
Boneshaker Marrowthon 2017 Details:
Motorcyclists wishing to take part are asked to arrive at the roof top car park of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham (B15 2TH) around 10.15am to allow for a prompt 11am departure. The fully-marshalled ride usually arrives at the National Brewery Centre in Burton by 12.30pm.
The route does use a small section of the Aston Expressway, so learners should meet at the McDonald’s restaurant at Bassetts Pole at 11am (B75 5SA).
