Inside the Passion is a new fly-on-the-wall documentary following legendary TT racer John McGuinness. It’s the work of Andrew Shim, who you might recognise from his roles in the Shane Meadows TV series This Is England. He’s also an amateur MMA fighter and motorcycle racer, so fancied trying to create a documentary free from polished PR-friendly examples which have become normal.
Part 1 is live and embedded above, with Part 2 due out this week. It’s worth watching and is pretty entertaining. Of course, it helps having a subject who happens to be as honest as he is successful at the Isle of Man TT. With 23 solo wins at the road circuit from 1999 to 2015, he’s also won at the North West 200, had podium finishes at the Macau GP, and competed in 250cc and 500cc Grand Prix. And he even has a corner named after him on the TT circuit.
The first part follows McGuiness to Le Mans in France for testing, as well as interview footage. He was racing for Jackson Racing, along with fellow TT rider Connor Cummins.
It’s interesting to compare it with the TT Legends documentary from 2014 which saw McGuiness, Cameron Donald and Simon Andrews racing for Honda, which was originally broadcast on ITV4.
