It’s not just Ducati celebrating a 90th Anniversary in 2016. While a father and his three sons began making radio components in Bologna before switching to producing motorcycles, another family was starting a business in Bristol, England.
Frank and Alice Fowler opened a small corner shop in 1926 to sell motorcycles and accessories, and their son Harry joined them just a year later at the age of 14. Now in 2016, Fowlers Motorcycles will be holding a 90th Anniversary celebration on Sunday, July 17th.
Not sure that’s quite going to work for cricket. But we know plenty of people who would love the signs and stickers in the windows, let alone the actual motorcycle parts on display.
If you do pop along, expect to see racers including Peter Hickman and Dan Linfoot, race trucks, classic bikes, and the usual selection of new and used motorcycles, clothing, parts etc. Apparently you can even get a behind-the-scenes tour of the call centre and warehouse, which has the most comprehensive selection of genuine spare parts in Europe.
In addition to the onsite Harry’s Cafe, there will also be a Valentino Rossi Dainese race suit on display, Shoei andArai will be carrying out helmet servicing, WD-40 will give you a free chain lube, and Fowlers mechanics will be offering free bike ‘health checks’.
To be honest, that all sounds fine, but we just wanted to share the other picture supplied with the press release.
That would be a Norton from the days when you could buy a motorcycle for two shillings and a sixpence. And male grooming was a quick trip to the local barber and a dollop of Brylcreem.
Back to the present, and the current Fowlers Motorcycles air-conditioned premises is at 2-12 Bath Road, Bristol BS4 3DR, and the 90th celebration runs from 10.30am-4pm on Sunday, July 17th, 2016.
