2017 BMW F 700 GS, F 800 GS & F 800 GS Adventure Details

The new 2017 BMW F 700 GS, F 800 GS and F 800 GS Adventure have all been revealed, with some updates and new paint schemes. There’s no big overhaul for the bikes, which isn’t surprising considering how successful they’ve been. The engine remains the same on all three bikes, but with a lower output for the F 700 of 75hp, compared to the full 85hp for the bigger badged bikes.

The BMW F 700 GS will remain the choice of those looking for a lower seat height, as well as a lower price. Although not cheap compared to rivals from other manufacturers, you save some initial cash by opting for the lower spec suspension, and cast wheels rather than spokes.

As BMW say, the F 700 GS is aimed at riders who appreciate the feel of an enduro motorcycle without needing the full off-road ability. Instead you get more of a focus on fuel economy.

The F 800 GS is more suited to hitting the trails, as is the more capable BMW F 800 GS Adventure. Although to be fair, the abilities of any of them will cope with the off-road ambitions of the typical rider (speaking as someone who has been outclassed on dirt by every BMW GS he’s ever ridden).

As you’d expect from such closely related motorcycles, the mid-range GS updates are applied pretty consistently across all the bikes.

2017 BMW F 700, F 800 GS and G 800 GS Adventure Updates:

The 798cc engine has been adapted to meet the EU4 regulations for 2017, with a new end piece on the stainless steel exhaust. The new rules are almost twice as tough on emissions as previous limits, as they drop the standards for carbon monoxide, hydrocarbon and NOx emissions. Plus motorcycles need to prove they’ll still pass after 20,000km of use.

But as a trade-off, you now get the option of a new HP Sports Exhaust by Akrapovic and available as an Original BMW Motorrad accessory.

All bikes get a new Electromotive throttle controller to give more responsive control. And each one can choose between Rain and Riding modes, with the F 800 GS and Adventure also having Enduro and Enduro Pro options (available as an ex works option).

2017 will introduce new, and more readable dials. Eu4 rules also require a new Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL), and the riding modes are also included in the display, which is fairly sensible.

Exciting news as there are now side reflectors on fork slider tubes and fixed fork tubes.

And finally you get three pain finishes for the new F 700 GS and F 800 GS, and two additional paint schemes for the BMW 800 GS Adventure, including new galvanised radiator trim elements, a new intake silencer cover and new ignition lock casing.
