If you’re a car fan as well as a motorcycle lover, or you want to be the most informed MotoGP addict, then you may be interested in details of the safety cars used. BMW has been providing the “Official Car of MotoGP” for 18 years since partnering with Dorna in 1999 and also presenting the annual BMW M Award for the top qualifier of the season. The BMW M MotoGP Experience is also running with former racers Loris Capirossi and Alex Hoffmann
The BMW M2 MotoGP Safety Car is based on the M2 Coupe, but with added safety features and a range of BMW M Performance Parts, including a lowered thread chassis and exhaust with flap system. It has a 370hp inline six-cylinder engine.
BMW supplies a total of six different BMW M and M Performance vehicles for use by MotoGP. Other safety cars include the BMW M4 Coupe and BMW M3. Meanwhile the Medical teams get BMW X5 M and M550d xDrive Touring cars, and the safety officer gets a BMW M5 to play with. And to round things out are actually two safety bikes, in the shape of a pair of BMW S 1000 RRs.
