You don’t have to be a big fan of AMA Supercross or off-road riding in general to appreciate this 1978 Super of Motocross short documentary. Produced by the MX Files and shared by Yamaha Motor USA, it followers the exploits of Bob “Hurricane” Hanna – one of the best off-road riders of all time, and in one of the greatest races in Supercross history.
Hanna was looking to win his second Supercross championship, but faced a huge number of challenges including his young teammate Mike Bell, the track layout at the LA Coliseum and several other riders and incidents.
If nothing else, watching the racing clips shows why there’s been a resurgence in the value of both classic MX bikes, and also vintage style riding gear. And it’s safe to say that sadly most of us couldn’t lap as quickly as the stars of the 1970s even on modern Supercross bikes.
