A BMW Sport Helmet recall has been announced, with owners asked to hand in their lid at an authorised BMW Motorrad dealership. Although there isn’t a safety risk, the BMW Helmet Sport models don’t meet ECE 2205 approval requirements and the German firm has decided to take them off the market.
The helmets don’t pose a safety risk, but the good news is that if you take yours to a BMW Motorrad Dealer you’ll be able to exchange it for a new helmet or product of equal value. And that applies regardless of age (Handy if you happen to have an older BMW Sport Helmet that is coming up to be replaced anyway).
The recall only affects the BMW Sport Helmets which can be identified with an 8-digit number on a chin strap label. Helmets with the ID 059241/P are affected.
So although the fact that they haven’t met ECE2005 approval doesn’t necessarily mean the BMW Sport helmets had any safety issues, you’ll be able to get a shiny new BMW helmet as a replacement.
