Three-time World Superbike champion, former British Superbike champion and MotoGP race winner Troy Bayliss will race in five rounds of the AMA Pro Flat Track 2015 championship, and the first pictures of his special Ducati Scrambler and leathers have been released.
The 46-year-old returned to WSB in 2015 to replace the injured Davide Giugliano at his home round in Phillip Island and the second Thailand round of the championship on the Ducati 1199 Panigale R. Not only did the Australian start his career racing on dirt, but in 2013 he established the oval invitational Troy Bayliss Classic, and won the Australian Flat Track and Supermoto championships in 2014.
“Dirt and flat track racing are where I cut my teeth as a junior. Everything I’ve learned on the dirt helped me through my career in track racing and to find myself back where it all started makes me feel young again”, said Bayliss. “I’m really pleased to have this opportunity. I want to have fun; racing in the American Grand National Series will be one heck of a challenge, but I just couldn’t pass up the chance to race on a Ducati with Lloyd Brothers Racing, especially as it means flying the Ducati Scrambler colours.”
As well as the continued popularity of dirt track in the U.S, and the growing support for the 1 mile oval racing in Australia and the UK, it’s also a chance to promote the new Ducati Scrambler. The bike is built by the Lloyd Brothers Motorsports team in collaboration with Ducati, based around the twin-cylinder, twin-valve, air-cooled bike. It’s similar to the Ducati Scrambler Full Throttle on which it’s based with low-slung wide bars, dual pipes on the right-hand side and race number holders.
The differences include a hand-made frame specifically built for AMA Flat Track, a special oval race track suspension set-up, 19-inch wheels, one disc brake at the rear to meet race regulations, and the Australian’s trademark number ’21’.
The race schedule for Troy Bayliss and the special Ducati Scrambler is:

- 30 May – Sacramento Mile (Round 4)
- 4 July – Du Quoin Mile (Round 7)
- 11 July – Indy Mile (Round 8)
- 6 September – Springfield Mile II (Round 13)
