If you’ve ever needed a battery monitor, then OptiMate would appear to have you covered with a micro-processor unit which will tell you the state of charge, and when the engine is on, whether the active charging is working properly.
Stored with the engine off, you get an update every 5 seconds with the LED showing red (out of charge), amber (weak), acceptable (one green tick) or good (double green tick). It draws 0.2 milliamps so shouldn’t affect the charge or lifespan of your battery. When the engine is running, you get the voltage being delivered to show whether your electrical system is doing what it should.
Three monitors are available. The 0-124, the 0-125 which connects to any 2-pin SAE battery lead you might have already fitted, and the 0-127 for lithium batteries which also reports over-charging.
They can connect to other OptiMate chargers etc, and cost £19.99 for the 0-125, and £22.99 for the 0-124 and 0-127. They all come with a 3-year limited warranty and will provide you with hours of fun as you watch a wait for a light to blink every few seconds in a dark garage.
