Another update from Tall Tom on his Yamaha TZR250 2MA project bike. Check out his progress by revisiting Part 1 and Part 2. We’ll let him carry on the tale in his own words:
I love electrics (I don’t). As long as the smoke stays in the wires then everything is good. Picking the best wiring loom from the two in the spares box revealed that “best” still required a fair bit of work if the smoke was not going to escape. A week of evenings at the bench and £20s worth of Loom tape, new connectors, shrink wrap and soldering later the TZR had a wiring loom that actually looked ok and tested ok, so on it went and barring one connector, it fitted. The connectors that don’t quite fit are the result of the Jap import clocks and a UK market wiring loom. A new 6 way connector is on order and will be swapped with the existing 4 way connector on the clock wiring harness when it arrives.
Moving on, the bike now also has forks, and I’ve treated them to new seals and some fresh oil. With the forks in place the bars could also go on and then I found out the bars hit the tank on full lock. The metal plate that adds a bit of width to the frame lock stop was missing and rather than replicate it I choose to buy a steering lock restrictor bracket. That arrived and didn’t bloody fit so I cut, filled and generally swore at a chunk of 50x50x8mm Aluminium Angle until it fitted and worked perfectly.
