Trading Challenge: From £5 to a motorcycle

Trading Challenge: From £5 to a motorcycle

May 9, 2014 By ScottRedmond 1 Comment

Challenging ourselves to trade our way up through parts and motorcycles isn’t an entirely original idea, but we’re doing it slightly differently to the big magazines and websites. Adding on blagged goodies and getting someone else to do the work just isn’t our style.

One of the main reasons for attempting to go from £5 to a fully-functioning motorcycle is for Dan. Not only did he set up this site, but he also turns countless emails and thrown-together words into articles, along with sorting and uploading all the pictures. Doing all that alongside starting his own business and being a dad has meant he’s had to endlessly postpone a working set of two wheels, and we need to sort that asap. It also means that he can continue to spend his spare cash on improving the website!

The Rescogs Trade-Up Challenge Begins

This is the start of the trade-up process. Yep, it’s an old Suzuki GSX-R rev counter. I managed to pick it up an an auto jumble after knocking the seller down from the tenner it was easily worth to just a five pound note.

Putting it on eBay, it managed to sell for £19.99. Which means ever after deducting the fees for eBay and PayPal we’re a few quid up straight away. And while we’re a long way off a road legal bike, it means we’ve made a start, much like creating Rescogs in the first place!

After fees, we’ve got just over £15 to repeat this formula and work our way up. No doubt we’ll have the occasional hiccup and like a game of snakes and ladders it won’t always be forward progress, but that’s the fun of trading up.

Now the big question is how to next invest our £15?
