Fast forward from the pictures and memories of running a motorcycle breakers back in the early ’90s and these pictures are from the year 2000. The Millenium Bug might not have delivered the promised mayhem, but Romford Breakers did.

By now the emphasis was much more on breaking, with the excitement of twice-daily Partsearch and Partfinder faxes. That kept me in the office when I might have headed for an early exit. Plus the TNT (Tomorrow not today?) delivery driver wouldn’t show up until 5pm to collect the many parcels and then stop for a cupper and a biscuit.

Keeping up the tradition of the original workshop, we quickly took over the outside of the yard with bikes and parts. The gas fire rarely worked, mainly because the bottle was always empty, so while I sweated through summer, several layers were needed for winter.

Saturdays were always fun with a steady mix of customers and tea club members to a soundtrack of Radio 2. These pictures show the slaughter of the various crashed and pretty decent bikes which were all sacrificed in the name of paying the next rent installment.
