The 2016 Yamaha YZF-R1M will be available to order online on October 1, 2015. The bike will have the same performance and specs as the 2015 model, and will also give new owners free access to the exclusive Yamaha Racing Experience events.
The track sessions will take place at major European tracks in late Spring 2016. Last year, MotoGP and WSB legend Colin Edwards supervised the sessions that advised on bike preparation, settings and track riding skills. You’ll also have access to Yamaha Racing technicians to help you set up the electronic control systems, engine and chassis.
You’ll get to see presentations, attend workshops and get taken out on track by qualified instructors and professional racers from both national and international Yamaha Racing teams. And mix with personalities from MotoGP and more.
The 2016 Yamaha YZF-R1M comes in one colour – Silver Blu Carbon.
As with 2015, you get M1 MotoGP style carbon bodywork, helping a 200kg wet/180kg dry weight. There’s a 200PS crossplane engine, short wheelbase chassis, 3D control electronics, with a 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit for to manage traction, slides, anti-wheelie, braking and launches. You also get Ohlins Electronic Racing Suspension, a Communication Control Unit with wireless remapping and GPS, and a magnesium rear frame.
Obviously it’s a limited edition again – last year the 2015 Yamaha YZF-R1M sold out, and expect the same to happen this time for collectors, the wealthy, and the R1-obsessed to indulge themselves. And if you want to spend even more cash, why not pick up the full Akrapovic full race system and titanium exhaust while you’re ordering?
To be fair, the 2015 model as £18,499, which means it’s a relatively affordable special. I can only hope there’s £18,494 hidden down the back of my sofa before the end of the month. If you want to bookmark the page ready for the morning of October 1st, ordering a 2016 Yamaha YZF-R1M takes place here.
