Has it really been ten years since Barry Sheene left us? OK, so we’re a little late in paying our respects and laying a reef for Bazza. Where do the decades go? But we’ll try and make amends in a ResCogs style now.
Paul Boulton from www.motocatman.com recently invited Scottie along for a cuppa and a Hobnob along with the opportunity to admire Barry’s last competitive bike he rode during 1984 500 Grand Prix (now MotoGP) season.
While Paul went to boil to kettle, Scottie got busy and took these exclusive pictures for the site. Those of you with an eagle eye will notice that the rear wheel isn’t the original 16 inch item that the XR45 would of used, it’s just been converted by Paul Boulton to now use an 18 inch Dymag due to 16-inch race rubber being nigh on impossible to find. But this is the real deal, though.
The bikes just had a thorough check over and its next stop is Italy, where Barry’s son Freddie will parade it at an event this coming May. What a bike, what a noise, what a rider. Thanks for the memories, Bazza.
For the record, the Suzuki XR45 gave Sheene his last GP podium, with a third place in Kyalami. It also gave him his last win in the UK at Scarborough’s Oliver’s Mount the same year, before his return to classic racing in the 1990s.

Sean Emmett raced a RG500 MK 7 with the CRMC all last season. Very Nice to see it out there Ridden very hard too. Featured in Classic Racer March /April (No160).
Lovely Bike, I love a good 2 stroke 🙂 For those of you who have never been, can I recommend the Goodwood Festival of Speed,there are bikes (& cars) there you will not see anywhere else !
Yes its expensive but my entry fee was worth it when an ex-works blue & white RG500 with unsilenced stingers was started up right next to me ….proper bike & proper noisy 🙂
