We love a stroker here at ResCogs, we also love a racer. This ticks both of our boxes. Possibly one of the rarest race bikes on the planet, it may look like a Suzuki RGV250 race bike, but technically it’s a 1994 Suzuki RGV250 XR94 Grand Prix machine.
It may never have won on the GP track, but it’s won our hearts. Look at those lines, the dinky proportions make a road going RGV250 look like a tourer. And those tiny carbon fibre front brake discs are simply X-rated bike porn of the most extreme variety.
RGV fans will doubtless know that Suzuki went into the 250 GP series in 1991, and barely threatened the top 10 until they hired the infamous John Kocinski in 1993. He immediately took the XR94 to Suzuki’s first two podium places in years, and then rode as Assen where he took a 3rd.
That all ended on the cool down lap, after he decided to rev the nuts of it and slam it into first to grenade the engine in an apparent strop that he hadn’t won everything already. A little childish, and so cruel to such a gorgeous bike.
Just a handful of bikes were built and most ended up racing in Japan as the factory GP effort fizzled away. There are rumours that Kawasaki built something very similar based on a KR1S? Our thorough investigations (Google search when the kettle was boiling) have thrown up no real leads, maybe you know different? Let us know.
It’s just a shame that they couldn’t have persuaded Schwantz to try a Freddie Spencer 250/500 attempt – the Suzuki legend came to GPs from AMA Superbikes, so it would have been interesting to see him on the smaller stroker. Schwantz apparently did ride a Honda RS250 at Laguna Seca back in 1986, and having never ridden the bike before managed to crash out of second place two corners from the end, with a potential win in sight.
Kawasaki’s effort was called the x-09 ridden by airon slight…..

I own the road legal 1995 model in this colors…it was the dreams of my childhood, i also own and owned modern bikes but…nothing better than blue clouds and screamin’ exhausts!
