We’re all familiar with matt paint on motorcycles by now. It’s become particularly common in the custom and cruiser world. Although apparently naming it ‘matt liquid’ is more common when it comes to lipstick. But now the 2019 Ducati XDiavel gets new Matt Liquid Concrete Grey paint. Which makes a change from black for the high-end, performance cruiser.
Whether or not it was inspired by cosmetics and breeze blocks, the new Concrete Grey paint does look pretty good. The Ducati XDiavel is not a particularly subtle bike. But the black chassis and 1262cc engine look pretty stylish with the new lighter grey paint.
The other change from previous models is the contrasting seat. So the 2019 Ducati XDiavel gets new Matt Liquid Concrete Grey paint, and a dark brown 755mm perch for your backside. Which also extends over the rear cowl if you want to give a pillion ride to a hamster. For passengers approaching the size of a normal human you’ll want a premium or comfort premium seat as an optional extra, but the Ducati XDiavel really is more of a solo cruising motorcycle.
You still get 156bhp and 95 ft-lbs of torque to play with, and a potential top speed of 150mph. So it’s handy that it comes with the Ducati Safety Pack of electronics, including Ducati Traction Control and Bosch Cornering ABS. Plus the Ducati Power Launch option.
Should you want even more performance, including Brembo M50 front brakes, then you’ll still be able to choose the uprated S model. Which continues to be available in ‘Thrilling Black’ and ‘Iceberg White’.
As the 2019 Ducati XDiavel gets new Matt Liquid Concrete Grey paint and a new seat colour, the base price also changes. The UK retail price increases slightly to £17,195. Which is £200 more than the 2018 model. The current XDiavel S costs £20,195, and no price increase has been confirmed for 2019 yet.
There’s also still the Diavel range at a slightly lower price if you don’t fancy going grey. And having been introduced in 2011, earlier models are now becoming more affordable on the secondhand market. Prices now start around £7,000 on eBay, for example. Which is quite a lot of bike for your money. Although we’d probably keep an eye out for the 666 examples of the limited edition Ducati Diavel Diesel. It’s also got a brown seat, although the limited version gets leather and visible welding to stand out.
