The new Yamaha Tracer 700 brake and clutch lines from Venhill aim to give better performance and reliability with less maintenance than the stock items. Given that the middleweight sports tourer only arrived in 2016, the original equipment probably doesn’t need replacing quite yet. But the fact that it packs a reasonable 74bhp into a fully fuelled weight of 196kg, and the fact it handles well, makes it likely to be ridden in a spirited fashion.
So what difference can new cables make? Well the Venhill Featherlight clutch and throttle cables are made in the UK with marine-grade stainless steel for the inner wire. It then runs through a teflon liner which means the minimum of friction. And as a result, you get a lighter action with more feel and control. And that also means less pressure on the hands. Useful if you regularly commute in heavy traffic. Or you use your sports tourer for longer rides and encounter aching hands from the levers.
The teflon liner also removes the need for lubrication, saving some cost and time when it comes to maintenance. The bond at the end of each cable is also stronger as solder is allowed to penetrate the weave via a special ‘bird-cage’ process.
Then we have the Venhill Powerhose Plus braided brake lines for the Tracer 700. These have a DuPont Teflon core to resist heat, softening, expansion and losing shape. So the result is that your brake fluid gets delivered as expected to the callipers at all times. And you get more braking force than with the original equipment. And to add to the core, there is also stainless steel braid wrapped around it. In addition to going beyond the American DOT and German TUV standards, every Venhill hose is pressure tested to 1500psi.
So if you want some Yamaha Tracer 700 Brake and Clutch Lines from Venhill (or indeed throttle cables), how much will they cost? The Venhill clutch cable lines will set you back £20.46, while the throttle cables cost £36.77. The Venhill braided hose kits start at £78.49 for the front and £53.79 for the rear. And they’re available in a choice of colours for no extra cost.
